Glycerol is a clear, odorless, syrupy humectant widely used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and personal care. It draws moisture into the skin from both the deeper layers and the environment, helping with hydration and softening. Regular use can improve the skin barrier, reduce water loss (transepidermal water loss), smooth texture, soothe irritation, and help wound healing.

Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) is a volatile solvent and penetration enhancer used in many skincare products to help active ingredients dissolve, spread easily, evaporate quickly, and absorb well into the skin. It also has mild antimicrobial properties. However, ethanol in high concentrations or frequent use can dry out the skin, strip natural oils, irritate sensitive or compromised skin barriers, and potentially lead to increased oil production as the skin tries to compensate.

Its fragrance profile includes components such as linalool, benzyl acetate, and geraniol, giving it both perfumery and aromatherapeutic value. It’s used to enhance mood, reduce stress, calm anxiety, and help with relaxation.
